The Little Greene Lauderdale Wallpaper is a unique design that offers a twist on the classic striped theme. Its origins date back to around 1820, and it was discovered in Lauderdale House, a historic property that was built in the 16th century and overlooks the picturesque Hampstead Heath.
What sets this wallpaper apart is its production method. Instead of traditional block printing, the design is created through stencilling. A plain green paper would have been affixed to a hessian scrim stretched over the wall, and then the intricate pattern would be stencilled onto it in place. This technique adds a touch of artisanal charm to the wallpaper and reflects the craftsmanship of a bygone era.
