Little Greene Wallpaper Darwin Serein
The Little Greene Darwin Wallpaper is a remarkable piece, with a fascinating history. Dating back to around 1760, it was recently acquired by the Whitworth Art Gallery. What makes it even more intriguing is that this English wallpaper was found intact in a house in Aix-en-Provence, France. The design features an exotic scene that closely resembles a typical 18th-century hand-painted Chinese paper. However, a tax stamp on the back of the original rag paper unmistakably identifies it as English in origin. The 'Serein' colourway interpretation remains true to the original, making it a beautifully preserved archival document that captures the essence of its era.
