Little Greene - Hicks' Blue (208)

Hicks’ Blue (208) is a rich and atmospheric inky blue originally created by the influential designer David Hicks, known for his confident use of colour during the 1960s and 70s. The colour was famously used in the restaurant at the top of the London Telecom Tower in 1962, reflecting its architectural quality and enduring appeal in both contemporary and period settings.

Stylistically, Hicks’ Blue adds drama to kitchens, cabinetry, and shelving, but it can also anchor a more serene scheme when paired with lighter neutrals such as the Slaked Lime family. It works effectively alongside soft greys, warm natural tones, or, for a bolder contrast, saturated reds or greens. Its low reflectance means lighting plays an important role: in dim spaces the colour can feel intimate and brooding, while good natural or balanced artificial light brings out its richness and subtle undertones.
