Farrow & Ball - Setting Plaster (231)
Setting Plaster is named after the blushing walls that we have all admired in newly plastered houses. It is definitely a pink in historic terms, but has an unsurpassed gentle quality to it because of the inclusion of yellow pigment. A great colour to use as a background for antique furniture because of its timeless quality, it is also fantastic when paired with Mahogany in a contemporary home.

Setting Plaster
Farrow & Ball's Setting Plaster is a warm, inviting pink with earthy undertones that evoke the soft, aged look of traditional plaster. This charming shade draws inspiration from the gentle, sun-baked hues found in Mediterranean architecture, offering a subtle and sophisticated touch to interior spaces. Its name reflects the colour of freshly mixed plaster before it dries, capturing a timeless, natural beauty.
Setting Plaster is particularly well-suited for creating cosy, intimate atmospheres in living rooms, bedrooms, and dining areas. Its warm undertones add a sense of depth and comfort, making it a versatile choice for both contemporary and classic interiors. The colour works beautifully as a backdrop for other warm tones and complements natural materials such as wood and stone, enhancing the organic feel of a space.
One of the standout qualities of Setting Plaster is its ability to change character depending on the lighting conditions. In bright, natural light, it appears soft and muted, while in lower light, it takes on a richer, more enveloping warmth. This adaptability makes it an excellent choice for rooms with varying light levels throughout the day, ensuring that the space remains welcoming and stylish at all times.
Colour Schemes
Farrow & Ball's colour card includes a large range of gentle neutrals with matching bold accents. This makes it very easy for anyone to choose a colour scheme for their home.
Dimity and Tallow
Dimity: Dimity is named after the lightweight cotton fabric originally used to make ladies’ bustles, but which is now more commonly used for bedding. This pale and subdued taupe is brimming with warmth and an unmatchable depth, making it perfect for elegant and understated hallways.
Tallow: This illuminating neutral takes its name from the natural material originally used to make candles. Tallow’s pale cream finish reflects the light brilliantly so it is perfect if you want to lift a darker space or paint one colour throughout a property.
Skimming Stone and Elephant's Breath
Skimming Stone: This stony off white takes its name from a 19th century skim, or plaster colour, but often reminds us of childhood afternoons skimming stones. With its warm light grey undertones, Skimming Stone is extremely versatile and particularly suited to soothing bedroom schemes.
Elephant's Breath: This warm and contemporary grey is renowned for its characterful paint name, originally created by John Fowler, the notable English interior designer. Elephant's Breath reads as an uplifting mid grey with its hint of magenta, but can become almost lilac in the cooler light of west facing rooms.
Charleston Gray and London Clay
Charleston Gray: A warm and muted grey, Charleston Gray is named after the much loved home of the equally artistic and intellectual Bloomsbury Group in East Sussex. Very popular for use in modern living rooms, its brown undertones create a warm, enveloping and hushed atmosphere.
London Clay: A warm and charming brown, London Clay is loaded with magenta pigment for a rich, earthy hue that creates the most charismatic and elegant of rooms. So named because it is a deeper accent to London Stone, consider using this dark brown in a hall or transitional area to make the rooms coming off it feel much lighter and brighter.
