Graco RAC X PAA Spray Tips

Are designed for general-purpose airless spraying, ideal for wall painting and high-productivity work on interior and exterior jobs. Whether you’re spraying emulsion in a home, coatings on a commercial site, or paints in light industrial environments, PAA tips deliver a consistent fan pattern and reliable finish to help you work faster with less waste.

Key benefits:

  • High quality finish – consistent, long-lasting spray pattern.
  • High productivity – cover large areas quickly on walls and general spraying.
  • Easy tip ID – large raised numbers stay readable even when covered in paint.
  • Secure fit – locking tab keeps the tip firmly seated in the guard.
  • Quick unblocks – snap between spray and reverse positions for fast clearing.
  • Tool-free seal – OneSeal tip gasket installs without tools.
  • Solvent seal option – available for use with extremely hot solvents.

Why choosing the right spray tip matters:

Your spray tip affects speed, finish quality, overspray and material usage, which means it directly impacts your profit on every job. The right tip helps you:

  • Reduce overspray and mess.
  • Improve control and finish quality.
  • Spray faster with fewer passes.
  • Use less paint overall.
  • Protect your sprayer from overworking.
  • Increase profitability (less time + less paint).

How airless spray tips work (quick explanation):

Airless sprayers pressurise paint without air and force it through the tip’s small orifice at high pressure (up to 3,000 psi). This atomises the coating into a controlled spray fan, similar to putting your thumb over the end of a hose to change the pattern and flow.

  • The pump provides: pressure + flow.
  • The tip controls: fan width + paint volume.

Understanding tip sizes (fan width + orifice):

A tip size tells you two things:

  1. Fan width (first digit):

The first number relates to the spray angle, measured at 12 inches from the surface.

To estimate fan width, multiply the first digit by 2.

    Example: Tip 517:

    • “5” = 50° spray angle.
    • 5 × 2 = 10 inch fan width.
  2. Orifice size (last two digits):

The last two digits show the hole size in thousandths of an inch.

    Example: Tip 517:

    • “17” = 0.017" (? 0.43mm) orifice.

Your actual flow rate depends on:

  • Your spraying pressure (higher pressure = more flow).
  • Coating viscosity (thicker paint = less flow).

Important: Never exceed the maximum tip size your sprayer can handle. Every sprayer has an output limit.

Tip wear: the hidden cost that kills profit:

Spray tips are consumables and will wear over time—mainly from:

  • High working pressure at the gun.
  • Abrasive materials in the coating.

A worn tip is like a worn drill bit: it takes longer, works harder, and the result looks worse. Continuing to spray with a worn tip can cause:

  • More overspray and wasted paint.
  • Slower work and uneven finish.
  • Higher pump strain (and potential to exceed your sprayer’s capacity).

In most cases, replacing a worn tip costs far less than the extra labour and paint you’ll burn through by keeping it in service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Graco RAC X PAA tips best used for?
They’re designed for general-purpose airless spraying, especially wall painting and high-productivity work on interior/exterior jobs.
What’s the key benefit vs cheaper tips?
A more consistent, longer-lasting fan pattern helps improve finish quality and reduce wasted time and material.
How do I clear a blockage?
Use the RAC design: rotate to reverse position to clear the tip quickly, then rotate back to spray.
How do I choose the right PAA size?
Choose fan width (first digit) for the surface size, and orifice (last two digits) for coating thickness/flow. Never exceed your sprayer’s max tip size.
When should I replace an airless tip?
When the fan starts tailing, coverage slows, or overspray increases. Worn tips waste paint and time and can put extra strain on the sprayer.
